ARMAGH AND DUNGANNON HEALTH ACTION ZONE
The Armagh and Dungannon Health Action Zone (HAZ) was initially established in 1999 for three years by the Minister for Health Social Services and Public Safety.
HAZ is a partnership between statutory, community, voluntary and private sectors. Its aim is to measurably improve health and wellbeing, working with and on behalf of local people within the Armagh Dungannon areas.
Following an evaluation of the partnership, its work was extended for a further three years and a new HAZ Delivery Framework was devised for 2002-2005.
The HAZ delivery framework for 2002-2005 is centred around two priority themes:
- Rural Health and Wellbeing
- Poverty, Disadvantage and Health
The HAZ team are currently developing the following demonstrator projects to tackle these issues:
- Neighbourhood for All: Neighbourhood Regeneration
- Decent Food for All: Food Poverty (to include Free Fruit for Schools and Community Garden schemes)
- Home is Where the Heat is: to include rural fuel poverty and renewable energy innovations
- Occupational Health, Stress and Accidents Programme and Research: to be undertaken in small to medium enterprises and farms
- BASE Healthy Living Centre: to include partner outreach services and promotion of healthy lifestyle
- Mental Health and Men's Health
