£1.5 million is being invested in services for children with disabilities and their families in the Southern Board's area over 3 years.
Often children with disabilities and their families need support from a wide range of services and professionals. With this in mind, the funding is being used to develop a 'Wraparound' initiative in each Trust area. 'Wraparound' is a 'one stop shop' idea which means that a number of professionals or services that a child with disabilities may need are brought together in one setting. This means that the professionals are all in one place for the child, instead of the child having to go to each professional individually.
The range of services enhanced or developed as a result of 'Wraparound' includes:
- New locally based Child Development Clinics offering diagnosis, assessment and treatment
- Increased respite provision
- Specialist childminding provision
- Daycare services
- Play Adviser / Family support information
- Specialist services for children with visual impairment and their families
- User consultation scheme
- Parents and Professionals and Autism (PAPA) Support Group
