Social Services Training Department
The Department is led by Mr Ian Montgomery, A.D.S.S., who is responsible to the Director of Social Services and the S.H.S.S.B. Training Consortium. The Unit provides a Boardwide service to Social Work and Social Care Staff.
The key elements of support and training activities are as follows:
- Social Services Training Consortium – oversees all Social Services Training activities.
- Vocational Training and Support for staff in all Trusts in Board's area.
- Provision of placements, teaching and assessment for professional social work students.
- Provision of comprehensive range of post-qualifying training and development opportunities for professional social work staff.
- Represent Board and Trusts on various Regional Management Groups and Committees.
Annually the Unit provides an In-Service Training Short-Course Programme and a Multi-disciplinary Child Protection Training Programme – click below to download these.

The Department has offices in Craigavon/Banbridge and Newry/Mourne Trusts and has its headquarters at 41 Abbey Street, Armagh (Tel 028 3751 1308).
