• To promote and support all developments in nurse prescribing
• Working with Boards, Trusts, GPs, Local Medical Committee, Area Prescribing Forum and others to agree common procedures in the development of nurse prescribing.
• To support and assist nurse prescribers and the practices to which they are aligned in ensuring safe, cost-effective and rational prescribing.

• Supports the Southern Investing for Health Partnership (SIHP)
• Co-ordinates the development of an annual Health Improvement Plan on behalf of the SIHP
• Contributes to a range of inter-sector, inter-agency partnerships to tackle the determinants of health and wellbeing, e.g. Community Safety Partnerships, Neighbourhood Renewal Partnerships and CAWT (Co-operation and Working Together) Cross Border Sub-groups

Responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of policies and programmes which deliver on key tobacco targets in the Southern Health and Social Services Board area in line with:

• The Tobacco Action Plan for Northern Ireland.
• DHSSPS Smoking Cessation Services Monitoring Guidance 2000/2001.
• Regulations on smoking in public places.

Responsible for the specialist area of Tobacco Control across the SHSSB area in delivering on priorities in relation to:

• Tobacco Control Policies across all sectors and settings.
• Smoking Cessation Services throughout the Southern Area.
• Smoking Cessation Training.
• Smoking Prevention Initiatives.

• Support the HAZ Strategic Alliance Group
• Responsible for the implementation of the HAZ Strategic Framework for 2005-2007.
• Strategic and organisational development of HAZ.
• Building and maintaining partnerships with the statutory, voluntary and community sectors.
• The planning and delivery of HAZ initiatives, tackling health inequalities across the Armagh & Dungannon area.

• Leads on the Health Promotion function within the SHSSB
• Co-ordinates assessment of need and the development of health promotion strategies
• Supports a range of partnership programmes at local, regional and cross-border level eg NOF Cancer Prevention, Sexual Health, Physical Activity, Mental Health Promotion

• Advises on the commissioning of AHP services
• Ensures effective AHP contribution in the planning and development of AHP services
• Provides support to the AHPs in professional services
• Supports and facilitates clinical governance arrangements in respect of AHP services.

• Coordinates the development and delivery of the Southern Area Drug and Alcohol Action Plan
• Develop and maintain liaison with the diverse range of statutory, community and voluntary groupings in the Southern area who contribute to the delivery of drug and alcohol awareness, education, training and counseling.

• To review and update the SHSSB Emergency Plan and work with Trusts towards further development of their emergency plans.
• To facilitate a co-ordinated approach to Emergency Planning preparedness across the HPSS sector within the SHSSB area.
• To better integrate the HPSS sector with other key stakeholders.

• To ensure probity in all aspects of payment made to Pharmaceutical Family Health Services Practitioners
• To implement all pharmaceutical aspects of the Board's Probity Assurance Systems.
• To develop processes to monitor the appropriateness of payments and probity of services provided by pharmaceutical contractors.

• Provide advice to the SHSSB on all aspects of optometry.
• Provide a liaison between the optometrists, the SHSSB, the ophthalmologists, orthoptists, GPs and others involved in the provision of eye care. 
• Monitor General Ophthalmic services provided both for clinical standards and probity.
• Promote the importance of eye care to the population of the SHSSB.

• To collate information on and raise the profile of health inequalities in the CAWT region and facilitate a coordinated response in conjunction with key stakeholders.
