Protecting Your Health
- Health protection is an important role of the department for example, if a meningitis case is reported we have a rapid response in place to prevent the spread of the disease.
- We promote immunisation to protect against flu and encourage vaccination of children against diseases such as measles, mumps and rubella.
- We also support screening programmes such as the breast and cervical screening programmes to prevent cancer or detect it at an early stage.
I have the pleasure of introducing the second Health Protection Service report for the Southern Health and Social Services Board.
The report aims to reflect the ongoing development of the Health Protection team and addresses the key areas for Infection Prevention and Control across Primary Care, Dental Services, Nursing and Residential homes and Southern Area Urgent Care Services.
The past year has been both eventful and exciting for the team and I hope the report reflects the progress of this service.
