What is SALT - Southern Area Learning as Teams?

SALT is the Southern Health Board's Protected Learning Time Scheme for all staff working within Primary and Community Care. It enables staff to set aside time for education during working hours. Staff are able to learn together in a multi disciplinary setting and remain updated in new ways of treating patients. It is beneficial in developing communication, teamwork and clinical and social care governance.

SALT is helping lead the way in developing new and improved methods of delivering high quality healthcare. Training needs are identified by the participants and Conference Events providing learning on themes such as child health, sexual health and palliative care have attracted large numbers of staff to date.

Smaller In-Practice sessions allow staff an opportunity to take forward learning from Conference Events into their Practice environment and have proved beneficial in developing practice teamwork and communication.
