Key Functions
- Responsible for ensuring that professional nursing issues are considered in relation to the Board's commissioning function across the full range of services and programmes of care. These issues include –
* advice to the Board on Nursing and Midwifery workforce planning and development;
* professional self regulation and liaison with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC);
* liaising and working with the Board's constituent Trusts in service improvement and practice development;
* ensuring that the DHSSPS strategic nursing agenda is considered in all service developments
* contributing to a number of regional groups in relation to strategy and policy development with specific links to the other HSS Boards and Trusts, Nursing and Midwifery Advisory Group, and Northern Ireland Practice and Education Council (NIPEC). - The Board's Chief Nurse is currently the responsible officer for the Board's statutory function as the Local Supervising Authority (LSA) with regard to Midwifery Supervision.
- Responsible for the Board's Midwifery Workforce Review, which will inform the Board on future projections for the midwifery workforce and associated practice issues.
- Provision of support to intermediate care teams within local Trusts to deliver significant improvements in intermediate care, in line with the Board's Intermediate Care Development Plan.
