Governance
Risk Management is the term applied to a logical and systematic method of establishing the context, identifying, analysing, evaluating, treating, monitoring and reporting risks associated with any activity, function or process that will enable the SHSSB to minimise losses and maximise opportunities. In order to manage risk the Department and all of its associated bodies have adopted a risk management model called the Australia/New Zealand 4360:1999 model. After adopting the model the Department identified targets for the HPSS bodies to meet. These included putting organisational structures in place. The Board has done this by:
- Designating an Executive Board Member with specific responsibility for risk management;
- Creating a Governance Committee and a Governance Implementation Team;
- Approving a Risk Management Strategy;
- Creating a Risk Management Co-ordinator post.
The Department will be issuing controls assurance standards to enable HPSS bodies to provide evidence that they are doing their reasonable best to manage risk and the Board will have to report it's progress against these standards on an on-going basis.
